Attorney Lauren recently graduated from the California Western School of Law, with Cum Laude honors. There, attorney Lauren took different immigration related courses such as Immigration Law, Asylum and Refugee Law, and the Immigration Seminar and Clinical Field Placement: Helping Victims of Domestic Violence. Knowing from a young age that she wanted to be an immigration attorney, she took the initiative and learned many different aspects of immigration law such as but not limited to VAWA, asylum, U-Visa, and family-based petitions.
During law school, attorney Lauren also interned at the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program at the Temporary Restraining Order Clinic and at their Unlawful Detainer Clinic. There, she learned the legal issues her surrounding community in the North County faced and her passion for social justice grew. She also interned at the Southern California Immigration Project where she met her clients at the Imperial Valley Detention Center, assisted with the preparation of their asylum cases, and attended their removal proceedings in the immigration court. There, she also learned about different country conditions from countries such as Eritrea, Uganda, Ghana, and Yemen.
Currently, attorney Lauren is the associate attorney at the Law Offices of Tammy Sumontha where she is the team lead attorney in many different cases such as naturalization, VAWA, I-751, and, family-based petitions. Attorney Lauren’s background of social justice and non-profit work has motivated her to treat every case with the upmost respect, passion, and dedication.
Attorney Lauren works with her caring and dedicated team to ensure each case is completed with the care it requires. She strongly believes in helping each client to the best of her ability and ensuring every aspect of their case has been met.
Melanie has been working in the immigration law field for more than 13 years. The spark of her interest in law started when she was a paralegal, and led her to go to the California Western School of Law and later became an attorney. Her work in the immigration law field has included consular processing, adjustment of status, naturalization, waivers, asylum, and removal defense.
Melanie is a second-generation child of immigrant parents from the Philippines, and the first in her family to finish college and attain a law degree.
Melanie specializes in legal research and writing. She has helped numerous clients obtain immigration benefits in many complex matters. Melanie’s expansive knowledge of immigration laws and regulations and her in-depth understanding of the U.S. immigration agencies have enabled her to provide knowledgeable counsel to our clients and map out practical and effective case strategies.
